Food service leader who fondly recalls sampling C-rations in the ‘70s as a boy set to retire
May 15, 2024 — As a young boy in Germany in the early 1970s, Dietmar Schatz would go on camping trips with his Boy Scout troop near the Army training areas. In those days the Soldiers would eat C-rations in the field, which were canned, shelf-stable meals perfect for combat conditions. Schatz said he was thrilled when the U.S. Soldiers would offer him and his German friends a sampling of their Army C-rats. That stuck with him for well over a half a century, and now the supervisor of all the dining facility attendants at three warrior restaurants in the U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria community is set to retire from the Army with nearly 41 years of service. ... May 13, 2024 — Stephen Davis grew up a military brat. Following in his father’s footsteps, he and his two brothers all chose to serve in the military, too. Davis, who is the oldest of the three, is a retired Air Force technical sergeant. DEFENDER 24: APS-2 field hospital activated, issued in an Army medicine history first
May 8, 2024 — For the first time in Army medicine history, an Army Prepositioned Stocks-2 32-bed field hospital was activated and issued, and for the first time in APS-2 history, an Equipment Configuration and Hand-off Area was established at Dülmen to support this mission. The team from the 405th Army Field Support Brigade’s Germany Battalion at the Dülmen APS-2 worksite and members of the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency pulled an APS-2 field hospital from an 80,000 square-foot medical warehouse, and with help from the gaining tactical unit, 30th Medical Brigade and 16th Sustainment Brigade, they transported it to Baumholder for DEFENDER 24... Class VIII medical supply and equipment containers are loaded onto Army line-haul transporters at the Dülmen Army Prepositioned Stocks-2 worksite to be convoyed from Dülmen to Baumholder, Germany, for DEFENDER 24. For the first time in Army medicine history, an APS-2 field hospital was activated and issued, and for the first time in APS-2 history, an Equipment Configuration and Hand-off Area was established at Dülmen to support this mission.
