LRC Benelux - Brunssum property book officer maintains effective supply discipline program

By Cameron Porter 405th Army Field Support Brigade

Name: Farrin Conway

Job title: Property Book Officer

Assigned: Logistics Readiness Center Benelux - Brunssum, 405th Army Field Support Brigade

Location: Brunssum, the Netherlands

Experience: I’ve been at LRC Benelux in Brunssum, the Netherlands, for 2.5 years. Before that I was a property book officer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Mississippi, for three years. Before that I worked at Fort Irwin, California, as a logistics systems inspector, and I was also a Global Combat Support System-Army instructor with Norththrop Grumman in Lakewood, Washington.

Other Service: I served for 12 years in the Army as a supply and logistics noncommissioned officer and completed my service as a staff sergeant.

Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana

Family: I have a 15-year-old daughter, Anyla Shelley.

Q: Can you explain your responsibilities as the LRC Benelux - Brunssum property book officer?

A: The property book office at LRC Benelux - Brussum is an office of two. On a day-to-day basis, we are responsible for requisitioning and maintaining equipment. We manage the accountability of all the equipment and supplies within the Brunssum footprint. We review and evaluate our hand receipt holders’ operations and anticipate their needs. I have 27 hand receipt holders in the Brunssum area of operations who I’m responsible for, and we are very strict on accountability. For example, our heftiest hand receipt holder at this time is the U.S. Army Garrison Benelux Directorate of Public Works maintenance team in Brunssum. They have survey kits, vehicles, electronics, machinery and heavy equipment – a lot of equipment worth a lot of money, and we have not had to do a report of loss equipment since I’ve been here. As an additional duty, I’m also the program manager over the Brunssum Customs Program, as well.

Q: Why is the property book mission at LRC Benelux - Brunssum so important?

A: Our job is important because we are responsible for maintaining an effective supply discipline program in the Brunssum area of operations. We make sure all the hand receipt holders are accountable for their property 100 percent of the time. It’s important we assist our hand receipt holders and the organizations they’re assigned to in order to ensure zero fraud, waste and abuse of equipment and supplies in the Brunssum area of operations.

Q: What do you enjoy about your job, and what motivates you?

A: I really enjoy working with my coworkers. We’ve created a light-hearted atmosphere, which makes coming to work enjoyable and encourages me to be a productive member of the team. I also have an enjoyable professional relationship with all of my hand receipt holders. Even though I am no longer an active duty Soldier, I still feel like I’m part of the team and have a strong sense of accomplishment working to support the overall mission. I enjoy supporting Soldiers.
