Former MP finishes degree, accepts BASOPS Trans job, helps make moving claims less stress

By Cameron Porter 405th Army Field Support Brigade

Name: Zachry Flores

Job title: Transportation Assistant Claims Advisor

Assigned: Base Support Operations Transportation (Outbound), 405th Army Field Support Brigade

Location: Kaiserslautern, Germany

Experience: I’ve been working at BASOPS Trans for almost three months. I worked part time as a Child and Youth Services provider at Family Morale Welfare and Recreation, U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden for almost two years before accepting this job position at BASOPS Trans, 405th AFSB. Before that I worked part time at the commissary in Wiesbaden for 3.5 years.

Other service: I served in the Army as a Military Police Soldier and noncommissioned officer for almost 12 years.

Hometown: Pleasanton, Texas

Family: I am married to my wife, Lisa, for 10 years.

Q: Can you explain your responsibilities as a claims advisor with BASOPS Trans?

A: As a claims advisor, I’m working with service members and civilians who need assistance with their personal property claims. That could be if they are filing a claim for damages to their property, lost property, or filing an inconvenience claim because their shipment missed its scheduled no later than arrival date. I communicate with the agents and act as a middle person and a representative for the service members and their families to make sure everyone understands what the regulations state and what they are entitled to.

Q: Why is your job as a BASOPS Trans claims advisor so important?

A: Many service members and civilians reaching out to make a claim may not know the full aspect of what they are entitled to. There’s a big difference between making a claim straight with the Transportation Service Provider or sending a claim to the Military Claims Office. If I could give one piece of advice to our service members and civilians, I would tell them they now have a representative, and I’m just a phone call. I’m here for the service members and the civilians. If they have any questions or concerns, they should contact me, and we’ll work through it together. My phone number is DSN 528-2540 or civilian 0611-143-528-2540.

Q: What do you enjoy about your job, and what motivates you?

A: As you can see from my employment history, I kind of jumped around from part-time job to part-time job. But I worked very hard to achieve my education goals simultaneously while working part time, and I finally finished my master’s degree in business administration so I felt like I was ready to jump into a job of greater responsibility. But honestly, what’s most important to me is always being associated with the military. I came to this job ready to serve the military community, and now I’m working directly with service members and civilians, helping them and being a second voice for them. They’re not in their situation alone. They have someone they can reach out to help ensure their stress is less.
