405th AFSB, 50th RSG discuss base support operations in Poland

The 405th Army Field Support Brigade's command team, Col. Brad Bane and Command Sgt. Maj. Kofie Primus, visited the Florida National Guard's 50th Regional Support Group in Powidz, Poland, April 29 to discuss the partnership that exists between the two units supporting thousands of Soldiers deployed to Poland with Base Operating Support-Integrator resources, enhancing the operational readiness of U.S. Army Europe and Africa.

The 405th AFSB's Logistics Civil Augmentation Program, or LOGCAP, provides base support and sustainment services, a critical component to 50th RSG's base operations mission in support of about a dozen active forward operating sites in Poland.

During the visit, the 50th RSG provided a briefing to the 405th AFSB command team, and the two commands walked the life support area at Powidz. Almost 1,000 Soldiers are forward-stationed or deployed there, and the 405th AFSB's LOGCAP contracts provide vital life support assistance to that site and several others throughout the country – everything from water and power to dining facility operations and living quarters – and much more.

The 405th AFSB command team also presented coins of excellence to three deserving 50th RSG National Guard Soldiers for their outstanding performance and dedication to duty. Receiving coins were Spc. Alecia Katrich, Sgt. Alexis Gutierrez and Cpt. Thomas Howard. Katrich is a supply clerk, Gutierrez works in the judge advocate's office, and Howard is a contracting officer.

The 50th RSG arrived in Poland in February and immediately began base support operations at all of the forward operating sites there. The 50th RSG is from Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida. Prior to the unit's mission in Poland, the 50th RSG was the Florida National Guard's main effort in support of the state's COVID-19 response efforts.

The 405th AFSB is assigned to U.S. Army Sustainment Command and under the operational control of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, USAREUR-AF. The brigade is headquartered in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and provides materiel enterprise support to U.S. Forces throughout Europe and Africa – providing theater sustainment logistics; synchronizing acquisition, logistics and technology; and leveraging the U.S. Army Materiel Command materiel enterprise to support joint forces.
