AFSB-Mannheim APS-2 maintenance - The Coleman Worksite holds and maintains equipment designated for an armored brigade. The equipment is destined for a NATO-funded APS storage facility that will be built min Powidz, Poland providing an additional 600,000 square feet of humidity controlled warehousing with a robust maintenance facility.

Supply specialists from 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and contractors assigned to Army Field Support Battalion-Mannheim, 405th Army Field Support Brigade, count and report supply items loaded in a special storage container designed to act as a mobile supply room. The accounting and reporting of 4,776 lines of material containing tens of thousands of individual repair parts, tools and supply items – part of a full Army Preposition Stocks-2 issue designed to outfit an entire armored brigade combat team and valued at nearly $20 million – was done in 2- and 3-person teams. Usually, one or two logistics supply specialists physically check each item and account for it, and another specialist records their findings. From there, the information is uploaded into the Global Combat Systems Support-Army, a web-based automated logistics system. All 4,776 lines of material they accounted for was shipped from Coleman worksite in Mannheim, Germany to Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, and issued to 1st ABCT, 3rd ID, to help ensure the U.S.-based armored brigade stays up and running during its deployment to Germany. A contractor assigned to support the 405th Army Field Support Brigade ground guides an M1A2 Abrams main battle tank as it is loaded onto a German rail car at Coleman worksite in Mannheim, Germany. The 405th AFSB recently began augmenting its line-haul heavy equipment transporter deliveries of Army Prepositioned Stocks-2 equipment from Coleman to Grafenwoehr Training Area with Deutsche Bahn, or German railway, assets. More than two dozen armored vehicles and equipment pieces – ranging from tanks to Paladin self-propelled howitzers to Bradley fighting vehicles and more – were shipped via rail March 10. This was the first of many rail movements to come over the next few weeks. The APS-2 is being issued to 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at an Equipment Configuration and Handoff Area. The 1st ABCT is deployed to Germany from Fort Stewart, Georgia. Lieutenant Colonel Omar L. McKen, Commander, Army Field Support Battalion - Poland

Lieutenant Colonel Omar L. McKen assumed command of the Army Field Support Battalion-Mannheim, now Army Field Support Battalion-Poland, on 26 June 2023. LTC McKen enlisted in the US Navy in May of 1998 and in 2006 he attended US Army Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps and completed the Ordnance Basic Course in September of that year. Sergeant Major Olimpia Isabel Valdez, Senior Enlisted Advisor - Army Field Support Battalion - Poland
Sergeant Major Olimpia I. Valdez was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended El Monte High School where she played softball, basketball, and ran track. After graduating High School, SGM Valdez enlisted in the Army, January 6, 2003 as a 92Y (Unit Supply Specialist). She attended Basic Training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advance Individual Training at Fort Gregg-Adams (formerly Fort Lee), Virginia. Full Biography

About us

Formerly know as Army Field Support Battalion-Mannheim, the battalion was re-designated to Army Field Support Battalion-Poland in 2024 when it moved operations from the Coleman Army Prepositioned Stocks-2 worksite in Mannheim, Germany, to the the newest, most modern APS worksite in the world, located in Powidz, Poland. AFSBn-Poland is one of the four battalions under the 405th Army Field Support Brigade and is now headquartered in Powidz, Poland.

The battalion is charged with providing and coordinating receipt, transfer, storage, and maintenance of APS to enable commanders to conduct unified action and the full range of military operations in support of U.S. Army Europe and Africa.

The APS stored in Europe are designated APS-2. The Powidz APS-2 worksite in Poland is a NATO-funded project and the most significant single infrastructure endeavor by NATO in the past 30 years. When fully stocked with over 5,000 major end items – including hundreds of M1A2 tanks, M2 Bradley fighting vehicles, M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzers and more – the site will serve as one of six active APS-2 worksites in Europe under the mission command of the 405th AFSB.

The Powidz APS-2 worksite encompasses 650,000 square feet of humidity-controlled warehouse space, a vehicle maintenance facility, and various supporting structures, plus 58,000 square feet of munitions storage.
