    The Army Field Support Battalion-Africa receives, stores, maintains, accounts for and order issues Army Prepositioned Stocks, integrates and synchronizes Army Material Command capabilities and enablers in order to optimize the readiness of US Army Africa and Joint Forces.

    We are the premier APS storage site and maintenance depot providing functional expeditious support that increases unit readiness and support operations. 

Leadership

     Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Amato, Commander, Army Field Support Battalion-Africa
Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Amato assumed command of Army Field Support Battalion-Africa on June 10, 2022. LTC Amato is a native of Syracuse, New York. He commissioned as an officer in the Transportation Corps in 2004 after his graduation from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, Illinois. At IIT, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.  Full Biography

 

Master Sergeant John Larche, Senior Enlisted Advisor, Army Field Support Brigade-Africa                              Master Sergeant John D. Larche is a native of Sumter, South Carolina; he joined the United States Army in August 2002. MSG Larche attended Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, Advance Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, as a Light Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (63B). Full Biography

About us

The Army Field Support Battalion-Africa, is one of the four battalions of the 405th Army Field Support Brigade and headquartered at Leghorn Army Depot in Livorno, Italy.

AFSBn-Africa is charged with providing and coordinating receipt, transfer, storage, and maintenance of APS to enable commanders to conduct unified action and the full range of military operations in support of U.S. Army Africa and Joint Forces. The APS stored in Europe are designated APS-2.

The site, is designated as APS-2 and provides 630,000 square feet of humidity controlled capable warehouse space (15 warehouses) and 586,740 square feet of outside storage of assets for several combatant commands.

The battalion provides and coordinates Army Material Command enablers in support of U.S. Army Africa through its assigned Logistic Support Team Africa located at Camp Ederle, Vicenza, Italy. The stock sites are part of the European Reassurance Initiative and facilitates NATO’s rapid deterrence options.
