AFSBn-Mannheim streamlines issue, turn-in procedures

AFSBn Mannheim

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – Army Field Support Battalion-Mannheim set up an equipment configuration handling area to receive and set up equipment transfer from the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, in support of Atlantic Resolve here Jan. 28 to Feb. 2.

AFSBn Mannheim deployed an equipment configuration handling team comprised of 17 Department of the Army civilians and contractors, to eliminate the need for the ABCT to turn in equipment directly from Army Prepositioned Stock 2 facilities. The battalion had issued more than 50 pieces of equipment to the 1-1 ABCT last summer.

“We received, inspected and inventoried over 50 pieces of equipment - fuelers, PDLs (palletized loading systems), DESSTs (diagnostic electronic systems set tools) and BII (basic issue items) – between Monday and Friday,” said Patrick LaBeach, deputy support operations officer, AFSBn Mannheim.

The 1-1 ABCT is part of the regular nine-month rotation of forces deployed to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve to build readiness, increase interoperability, and enhance the bond between allied and partner militaries.

The 405th AFSB will issue equipment to the incoming rotation of an armored brigade combat team at designated locations in Poland in support of Atlantic Resolve in March.

AFSBn Mannheim is one of the 405th Army Field Support Brigade’s APS battalions and responsible for the receipt, storage, maintenance, shipment, issue, and turn-in of APS 2 equipment from locations in Germany.

The APS program strategically prepositions critical combat-ready assets worldwide to reduce deployment response times for a quick and agile expeditionary Army. The 405th AFSB manages APS-2, critical war stocks prepositioned in Europe to rapidly surge combat-ready forces into and across the theater to support the alliance and to act as a flexible deterrent option.
